CCD Observations

Observations utilizing various Charge-coupled Devices (CCDs) are acquired in the scope of the following tasks:

  • Observation of artificial satellites and space debris with the 1-m ZIMLAT:
    • Built-up and maintenance of catalogs
    • Acquisition of light-curves
    • Photometric observations
    • Long-time modelling of orbits
    • Validation of GNSS-Microwave observations using optical observations

Most of these tasks are performed in the framework of our participation in international cooperation and in the scope of ESA contracts.

  • ZimSMART (Zimmerwald Small Aperture Robotic Telescope)

This 0.2-m aperture, wide filed-of-view telescope can be operated fully robotic. It was built-up using off-the-shelf components. The main application is the monitoring of artificial space objects in higher altitudes, helping to built-up and to maintain a catalog of orbital elements.
