****************************************************************************** BSW Electronic Mail 12-Jul-2004 19:10:01 CET Message Number 0189 ****************************************************************************** Author: BSW Team Subject: Bernese GPS Software Version 5.0 Issues Dear BSW users, through this mail we address four different issues concerning the new Version 5.0 of the Bernese GPS Software. 1) Training course ------------------ The next training course will be based on the Version 5.0. We intend to schedule this course in the week of October 4-8, 2004. A detailed announcement will follow not before the end of this month. 2) Version 5.0 documentation ---------------------------- The writing of the new documentation is more time consuming than we anticipated. Bernese Version 5.0 users will get this documentation delivered by mail as soon as it is ready. We foresee the publication on or around the time of the introduction course mentioned above. 3) Bugs in Version 5.0 ---------------------- A few bugs have been found in Version 5.0. Most of them affect particular platforms or compilers only. We refer to the webpage http://www.bernese.unibe.ch/support.html for a description of these bugs, as well as for means to repair them. The identification and solution of severe bugs will as usual be announced through BSWMail. We thank you for reporting bugs you could identify. 4) Missing information for Version 5.0 -------------------------------------- The readme files of the version 5.0 miss to address some issues, which are of interest to several users, in the context of running processing tasks without the menu system: 4.1) Starting BPE processes without the menu This is of course also possible with Version 5.0 of the software. There is a sample perl script which runs the RNX2SNX example for one session. This script can be found at: $X/USERSCPT/rnx2snx_pcs.pl 4.2) Starting programs from the command line If you want to start a program from the command line, you can do so as follows: - Windows: in the DOS window use the command %XG%\exename inputfile where %XG% is the environment variable pointing to the program executables (i.e ..\BERN50\PGM\EXE), and the "inputfile" is an inputpanel of this executables. For BPE debugging, it is sometimes a good option to save the temporary environment of a BPE run (see Menu->BPE->Start BPE process, option "Do not remove temp. dir." in second panel), and after the BPE run, you can use the exact input file used which is in the %T% directory structure, subdirectory INP - UNIX/Linux on the command line, you can use the command echo inputfile | $XG/exename to run the program with its corresponding inputfile.
