****************************************************************************** BSW Electronic Mail 10-Mar-2006 21:55:02 CET Message Number 0218 ****************************************************************************** Author: BSW Team Subject: Handling of L2C data Dear BSW Users, Since about half a year the first GPS IIR-M satellite (G17) is active that emits a C/A code signal on the second frequency. In RINEX 2.11 these observations are labeled by "C2". The IGS data centers intend to put RINEX 2.11 data containing C2 observations into their official data areas. In order to avoid a mixture of P2 and C2 data in the Bernese code observation files you have to skip the new observation type. The Bernese Software Version 5.0 does not support special handling of this observable. Programs RNXGRA and RNXSMT, as delivered in Version 5.0, already skip C2. For program RXOBV3 a patch is available in the update version 09-MAR-2006, see http://www.bernese.unibe.ch/support.html, update number B55 that forces the program to skip the new observable when reading from RINEX. In order to change this behaviour, if desired, you may comment the sequence C SKIP L2C DATA IF (OBSTYP(ITYP).EQ.'C2') GOTO 50 around line 681 in RXOBV3.f. In this case, C2 is processed as P2 in which case differential code biases are not handled correctly. For most positioning applications, no negative side-effects have to be expected even without installation of the patch. It should be mentioned that all additional RINEX 2.11 features are supported by the Bernese GPS Software Version 5.0. Best regards, The BSW Team [Mailed from: Urs Hugentobler ]
